Cumby Funeral Home Obituaries

Cecil, Robert Leland - Winston-Salem Journal

Mr. Cecil (Bob) was born on June 29, 1936 in Lexington, NC, the second child in what would be a large family. He graduated in 1958 from Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He began law school at Wake Forest Law School, but interrupted that pursuit with active duty in the United States Army from 1959-1960. He resumed studies at Wake Forest Law School, graduating with the Juris Doctor degree in 1962. While in law school, Bob met the love of his life, Faye Branch, and they were married in 1961. They soon settled in High Point, where they raised sons Bo and Zack. Bob was active in the Presbyterian Church for many years and several civic organizations. He served as a District Court Judge and Chief District Court Judge during the 1970s-80s. From 1985-1991, he served as Counsel for Preferred Savings Bank. From 2009-2010 Bob presided over the High Point Bar Association. In recent years, Mr. Cecil was active in private practice and in Emerywood Baptist Church. He especially loved hunting with his sons, and attending the sporting events and musical performances of his grandchildren. Mr. Cecil is survived by his devoted wife, Faye Branch Cecil of the home; sons, Robert Leland Cecil, Jr. of Granite Falls and Zachary James (Susannah) Cecil of Clemmons; grandchildren, Parker, Andrew and Meredith of Clemmons; siblings, Nancy Hailey of Lexington, Richard K. (Fallie) Cecil of Lexington, Jeanne (Robert) Murphey of Midlothian, VA, Susy (Kenneth) Morrison of Hickory; and many other family members in the nearby area. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Leland Meredith ("Bud") Cecil and Isabelle Oakes Cecil, both of Lexington, and a brother, Charles Meredith Cecil. A service of worship and memorial will be held on Sunday 2-5-17 at 2:00 at Emerywood Baptist Church in High Point. The family requests that flowers be sent to Cumby Funeral Home, 1015 Eastchester Dr., High Point, 27262. Or in lieu of flowers, a gift may be made to Habitat to Humanity of High Point.
